    1/48 1942 Spitfire MK. Vb BM592
    Spitfire MK. Vb BM592, Wing Cdr Alois Vasatko, DFC, Exeter (Czechoslovak) Wing, June 1942. The Mk V was the most produced Spitfire variant and the main version throughout 1941. With a max. speed of 371 mph, and armed with 2 x 20-mm cannon and 4 x 0.303 inch Browning machine guns, it could also carry other external ordnance. Alois “Amos” Vasatko fought with the French Air Force and then the RAF. When the RAF 312th Czechoslovak Squadron was established, on May 3 1942, Vasatko was its first Wing Commander.     JX-E 'Night Reaper' BE581, No. 1 Squadron RAF. As flown by Czech pilot Karel Kuttelwascher during night intruder missions. On May 4, 1942, Kuttelwascher shot down three He-111's. This fighter ace ended the war with 18 confirmed victories and two DFC's. Die-cast metal with some plastic parts. Metal propeller, opening canopy, and removable pilot figure.     Griffon powered Spitfire XIV MV257 of Group Capt. J. E. Johnson, No 125 Wing, Denmark, June 1945. In April 1945 Johnnie Johnson was promoted to Group Captain and put in command of No 125 Wing. On May 8, 1945, shortly after Germany surrendered Johnson and No 125 Squadron moved to Copenhagen Denmark. MV257 was his post-war Spitfire and the last Spitfire to carry his initials JE-J. Johnson’s wartime record was 515 sorties, 34 aircraft destroyed, seven shared, three probables, 10 damaged and one shared, destroyed on the ground. All his “kills” were fighters.     B-26B Martin Marauder high-speed medium bomber 'Dinah Might’, 553rd/368th BG USAAF. B26's saw combat in the Pacific, North Africa, and Europe, having the lowest loss rate of any Allied bomber. On D-Day 'Dinah Might' led a raid against German fortifications overlooking Utah beach. The raid happened only minutes before landing craft released troops onto the beach. Flown by Major David Dewhurst 'Dinah Might' released its bombs at exactly 06.24.30. Known as ‘Moonbeam McSwine’ due to its nose art of a ‘Li’l Abner’ comic character of the same name. Piloted by American James Forrest "Lou" Luma and navigator Colin Finlayson. The Mosquito FB Mk.VI fighter-bomber became the most numerous and widely-used Mosquito variant. Its speed and agility were backed-up by a formidable armament of four Browning 0.303" machine-guns in the nose and four Hispano 20 mm cannon in the belly.     1/72 1944 Westland Lysander Mk.III (SD) - Lucky
    Westland Lysander Mk.III (SD) RAF No 161 Sqn. Piloted by "Lucky" Newhouse during Operation Scimitar on 4/5th August 1944. An unusual feature being the D-Day markings around its rear fuselage rather than on its wings. The Lysander's short take-off and landing (STOL) abilities made it ideal for using small improvised airstrips behind enemy lines in occupied France. Lysanders of RAF No.161 Squadron made a significant contribution towards the success of the Allied invasion of France, flying perilous 'Spy Shuttle' operations. The unarmed Lysanders were flown on nights where they could rely on the light of the moon, carrying up to 3 agents, or 'operatives', into enemy occupied France and often bringing others back on the return flight. The secrecy of such missions meant the Lysanders often came under fire from both enemy and friendly forces. Highly detailed diecast model, with crew figure, rotating prop, and fixed landing gear.     Republic P-47D Thunderbolt 28RA ‘Dottie Mae’, 410th USSAF, pilot Lt Henry Mohr. High-altitude fighter and ground attack fighter-bomber. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns, and it could carry 5-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 lb (1,100 kg). “Dottie Mae" was the last Allied fighter to be lost before the end of the war in Europe. Unfortunately she was lost through mishap, rather than enemy action. Happily the pilot escaped unscathed. Diecast metal model with some plastic parts. Has rotating prop and Pilot figure.     Trusty Hawker Typhoon IB "JB II" of Wing Commander John Robert Baldwin , RAF No. 198 Squadron. Originally intended as a medium-high altitude interceptor, the Typhoon was the only RAF fighter in mid-1941 capable of catching the Focke Wulf Fw-190 at low altitudes. Typhoons succeeded in roles such as night-time intruder, long-range fighter, fighter-bomber, and when later fitted with RP-3 rockets and four 20mm Hispano auto-cannon, it became one of WWII's most successful ground attack aircraft. JB II, fitted-out with rocket projectiles, was one of two Typhoons assigned to Baldwin. The other was equipped with bombs. Baldwin became the highest-scoring Typhoon ‘Ace’, with 15 confirmed victories, 1 shared and 4 probables. Highly detailed diecasy metal model, with some plastic parts. Schnell scored his first victory in May 1940, had amassed 20 victories by November, and shot down 9 Spitfires in just 2 days in July 1941 to bring up 45 victories. In August 1942 he shot down five Spitfires to reach his 70th victory, making him an "ace-in-a-day" for the second time. Schnell had 93 victories when he was KIA in February 1944.     Curtiss P-40B Warhawk, 155/41-13317. 2nd Lt. Kenneth M Taylor, 47th Pursuit Squadron,15th Pursuit Group, USAAF, Wheeler Field, Pearl Harbor Raid, 7th December, 1941. American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter bomber. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter of World War II, after the P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt. Kenneth Marlar Taylor was a USAAF pilot stationed at Wheeler Field during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. Along with his fellow pilot and friend George Welch, Taylor managed to get his P-40B airborne under fire and succeeded in shooting down two Japanese dive bombers.     This Douglas DC-3/C-47 has had a long and interesting life. Constructed in 1942 as a C47-DL she was sent overseas in 1943. After the war she was purchased by a former WWII pilot and nicknamed “Betsy”. In 1946 she became Cathay Pacific Airways first ever aircraft, and registered as VR-HDB. After being sold in the 1950's she spent the best part of 30 years flying cargo in the Australian outback, before being discovered and repurchased by Cathay Pacific. VR-HDB was then repainted in a 1940s CPA scheme and now hangs in the Science Museum of Hong Kong. Metal diecast with some plastic parts. Rotating props. Landing gear can be displayed up or down.
