The Dornier Do 17Z-5 was a maritime variant of the Luftwaffe's famous "Flying Pencil" (Fliegender Bleistift) light bomber. It was used almost exclusively by the coastal reconnaissance group Küstenfliegergruppe 606 (KüFlGr 606) for anti-shipping and long-range over-water operations. The Z-5 was fitted with heavy-duty flotation bags and specialised survival gear for crews operating over open water. This resulted in the prominent bulges that are visible on either side of the nose. Armament consisted of four to eight 7.92 mm MG 15 machine guns mounted in the nose, beam, and ventral positions, and the typical bomb load was 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg). Diecast model with some plastic parts. Crew figures, rotating props, and display stand. Landing gear can be shown up or down. Approx. 21cm x 24cm (8.25" x 9"). An extremely cool aircraft, and a really cool model.
