IAF upgraded General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) F-16 Fighting Falcon
Designed as a highly nimble lightweight daytime fighter, the F-16 evolved into a successful multi-role aircraft. It is a dogfighter with innovations such as frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while manoeuvering, reclined seat to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot and fly-by-wire flight control.
Armament: 20 mm M61 Vulcan six-barrelled ‘Gatling Gun’ cannon; 11 hardpoints for 17,000 lb payload; Hydra or CRV7 or Zuni rockets; Sparrow or Sidewinder or IRIS-T or AMRAAM or Python-4 air-to-air missiles; Shrike or Maverick or HARM air-to-ground missiles; Harpoon or Penguin anti-ship missiles; various flares, decoys, and drop tanks.
